The Florence Trigger-Box (FTB) project: An FPGA-based configurable and scalable trigger system

نویسندگان

چکیده

A multi-layer trigger system, based on programmable logic devices hosted VME boards, has been implemented. It is completely scalable and suitable for handling from a few up to hundred channels. Custom software monitoring controlling the system developed.

Scalable Trigger Processing

Current database trigger systems have extremely limited scalability. This paper proposes a way to develop a truly scalable trigger system. Scalability to large numbers of triggers is achieved with a trigger cache to use main memory effectively, and a memory-conserving selection predicate index based on the use of unique expression formats called expression signatures. A key observation is that ...

Scalable Trigger Processing in TriggerMan

Current database trigger systems have extremely limited scalability. Some commercial systems allow only one trigger per table to be defined for each type of update event. Application systems could use the ability to create thousands or even millions of triggers. The advent of the Internet and the World Wide Web has made it even more important that trigger systems scale up since users could crea...

Trigger System

The trigger system must provide appropriate timing signals to the injector, the RF drive system, the klystron modulators, the beam transport system, the end-station equipment, and the data-transmission system. Two independent timing functions are to be provided: one is pulse-rate selection and the other is synchronization—the adjustment of the relative timing of various devices with respect to ...
